Studio Four NYC

So, my ultra talented and design savvy friend Kate contacted me a while back about doing a few paintings for her nursery in NYC.  This was so exciting for me because she sent me a fabric sample and a room shot and told me to do whatever I wanted!  Are you kidding-a dream come true!!!!  She decided on 3 15"X15" canvases and wanted an elephant, giraffe and a monkey, but other than that it was up to me.  So, this is what I came up with....

I shipped them off last week and today I found her email with a picture of them hung in the nursery....

How chic is this baby's nursery?  Don't you love it!!!!  Next up is baby's arrival...boy or girl????!!!  Can't wait to find out and thank you Kate for the opportunity to "go with it!!"

Now go check out her showroom's website, Studio Four NYC which carries a "wide array of fully customizable carpets, boutique rugs, fabrics, and wallpapers!"  See below for a few examples....

Thursday Food Day (since I missed Tuesday)

So, this is what I've been putting down the hatch lately.  So yummy.  And did I mention so easy.  Mine doesn't look so pretty but all I do is:

2 thick slices whole grain bread-toasted
1/4 ripe avocado-spread across each slice
salt + pepper this layer
sliced roma tomatoes (or if you have those roasted tomatoes from last week)
salt + pepper

and voila. delish!

Blog Revamp!

So what do you think?  I'm in love.  This is just what I was wanting!  Carolyn did a fantastic job and worked fast!!!  Thank you, thank you!

Have you been over to Brooke's blog yet?  Her blog is Blueprint Bliss and it is awesome!  All abut interiors and such.  She actually is gearing up for  a move from Birmingham to Mississippi and they will be completely redoing a house there.  So, it has been fun to live vicariously through all of her design decisions along the way.  She has great style!  Brooke had a blog redesign not too long ago by Carolyn and could not say enough nice things about her!  So, thank you Brook for the referral!  She read my mind!

Ok, so some of you who actually read this blog have already heard this story but it was too good not to tell again:) So, Big R decided a while back he needed a house shed built in the backyard to house all of his yard toys.  The thing will measure 20X10. Seriously.  The guys arrived yesterday morning with a gigantic U-Haul full of lumber and supplies.  Well an hour into it, the neighbors are gathering in my front yard informing me that two of the 3 workmen have been arrested in my front yard basically.  Again, seriously?  I mean cuffed and hauled off to jail and their pickup was towed away on the tow truck.  The cops so kindly pulled up to inform me that I "shouldn't worry, these guys just drove down from NC with a busted out back windshield, no license, tags didn't match vehicle and no insurance."  They also told me "not to worry, it wasn't like they would rob my house or anything."  What.  Now that's all I'm thinking about.  Well, the boss man of these guys arrived today with a new crew-pictured below- to finish the job.  I was too embarrassed to go outside and take a better picture so the wooden structure in the back with a window is the new house shed:)  Long story, I apologize, but have you ever?

I never thought I liked

dark stained floors? You know I am a neutral girl and I have dreamed of this all white playroom and all white floors or at least light colored floors.  But I am starting to change my tune-maybe.  I think I like the look of the dark stain with the bright white walls.  I guess I always thought dark floors would darken the room, but these pictures say otherwise, don't you think?  We are in the midst of (maybe) doing a few tweaks here and there around the house and one of the thoughts is getting our floors refinished.  So, I would love some feedback from you.  What is your favorite?  The dark stain or the light?

There are a lot of kitchen shots because that is an area we are focusing on as well.  Getting rid of the red painted cabinets and going white.  The existing tile floor has got to go too-cracking and grout coming loose.  So, thinking of running the wood floors into the kitchen for one continuos floor throughout the house.  I think it will flow better too since we have such an open floor plan.  And the bikes/ scooters/ matchbox cars will have nice driving terrain.  Light floor pics below.

(secretly love this above kitchen-floors and stainless counters- the best.  only change would be white cabinets)

I like the look of sanded floors-back to the original raw wood with a wax sealer-so no shine or gloss.  Just not sure this look can be achieved with our existing red oak floors????

still dreaming......

Artist Market Update

Just a few pics I wanted to share from yesterday's Artist's Market at the Music Farm. This is obviously my booth above.

A few hand painted onesies...

And my neighbor-across the bar- was Stacy of PerlaAnne.  I have mentioned her before in this post.  Check out her work here.

And what a lousy shot of such fun and eccentric stuffed creatures!!!  This is Finkelstein's Center and I just loved their whole collection!  Check them out here.

There were so many talented locals represented here, so if you missed your chance yesterday, you must come out for the next event!  I'll keep you posted!

I did it...heehee

So, tomorrow (March 19) is the Artist Market at the Music Farm here in Charleston.  I have been working like a mad woman all week trying to get some things together for it.  I decided that I should take some photos to document what I have been up too.  This is a joke with this little guy below crawling all over the place:)    Speaking of...check out the bloomers on that tush!  I know, I had to do it.  He was a prime model.  The eyelet lace really accentuates the rolls on the thighs don't ya think?  It's a pink pig in case you can't tell.

Now here is a better shot in the appropriate underpinnings.
(Baby boxers)

Moving to a few new pieces I have been working on.  This was remnant canvas fabric that I painted grey numbers onto-just like the mobiles just hung in a different way-as wall art.

Hope you local people will come out to the Music Farm Saturday between 10-3 to support all of your local artists!

P.S. The resolution in these pics is horrible.  If anyone has a canon t1I and wants to give me some tips on white balance , please do so!

*All of these items plus onesies, small and large totes, child size aprons,  boxers,  bloomers as well as canvases will be for sale.

Tuesday Food Day (a day late)

Who doesn't love a little tomato basil combo?  These look like roasted tomatoes with a  little olive oil and  fresh basil to top it off.  Have you ever roasted a tomato?  You are in for a delectable treat!   My favorite way to roast a tomato is to slice them in 1/2inch thick slices and place on a sheet of parchment paper.  Preheat your oven to 200 degrees in the meantime.  Lay your slices out, sprinkle with kosher salt and fresh ground pepper, and a splash of olive oil.  Next I put whole cloves of garlic (peel included) sprinkled alongside the tomato slices.  Bake at 200 degrees for 2-3 hours.  Mmmm my mouth is watering!!!!

genius

Repurposing. Upcycle. Recycle. Whatever you call it, I like it.  I have a thing for boxes and containers for storing all the junk  lovely things in my life.  I found a few pics that I would love to recreate in my house somewhere-maybe that new playroom I keep dreaming about-ha!

Wall Pattern

Wouldn't this pattern dee and lala

be killer on a wall like this?

I know this room has been around the block but I still L.O.V.E. it!!!  Love those curtains and here is a great DIY for those interested!

Check out Kristen's How To on her blog Kristen F. Davis Designs.  She actually made these above panels by painting the chevron design with black wall paint!  Who knew???!!!
